Ed Faberman, Executive Director of the Air Carrier Association of America testifies before the House of Representatives Committee on Small Business
In testimony presented to the House Small Business Committee on June 26, 2008, Ed Faberman thanked the Committee for focusing on how congestion and delays in the nation's airspace system have impacted travel and tourism. He emphasized that "flight delays have significantly impacted the U.S. aviation system, posing a threat to our economic growth and future." Faberman added that "last year, the U.S. airlines experienced a lower rate of on-time flights than in 2006." He then added that the Travel Industry Association recently issued a survey revealing that deeply frustrated travelers avoided an estimated 41 million trips over a 12 month period, costing the economy more than $26 billion.
Ed Faberman concluded his testimony by stating, "Multiple studies and reports prepared by the federal government, local governments and airports, along with independent groups, set forth the enormous benefits that low-fare airline competition provides to this country." He added that "Congress must make sure the the Administration takes steps to preserve low-fare travel options for all travelers and communities."
